July 21st Dinner Meeting at Westwood Racquet Club
Our July dinner speaker was long-time FFV member, Captain Russ Cress! Russ has served on the FFV board in the past and now operates 'The Rebel Fly' fishing service. He guides on the James River as well as the Chesapeake Bay.
Our May speaker was Mark Kovach, a veteran Potomac River smallmouth bass fishing guide. For over two decades, ‘Mark Kovach Fishing Services’ has offered float fishing trips along an eight mile stretch of the Potomac River from Dam No. 3 above Harpers Ferry to Brunswick, Maryland. Recently, they have expanded their offerings to include trips on the Shenandoah River near Harpers Ferry as well as a stretch of the Susquehanna River from Duncannon to Marysville, Pennsylvania. Unlike a typical guided bass boat fishing trip, Mark’s trips float through Class II & III whitewater. This provides a unique opportunity for structure fishing in addition to offering the excitement of whitewater rafting. Mark’s presentation centered around ‘technical smallmouth bass fishing’. Mark also offers fly fishing schools during the course of the year.
Carlos Santos was our guest speaker for our March 17, 2005 dinner meeting at Westwood Racquet Club. Carlos is a master bamboo fly rod builder and journalist for the Richmond Times Dispatch. He discussed the art of crafting bamboo fly rods.
Tom Gunter, a fisheries biologist for the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, was awarded the 2005 Taylor Turner Conservation Award at our 2005 Annual banquet.
Chico Fernandez was our January 2005 Annual Banquet speaker. Chico's topic of discussion centered around 'The World of the Bonefish'. Click here for some photos from the 2005 Annual Banquet.
